OREANDA-NEWS. Russia does not consider it necessary to hold “empty” summits in the Normandy format. This was announced on March 3 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference after the talks with his Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto.

According to Russian diplomat, Germany and France put forward as an end in itself the convening of one more meeting in the format of the Normandy Four. At the same time, the implementation or ignoring of previous agreements is not taken into account, Lavrov added. “We do not need such empty summits for the sake of the summit. We told our partners about this,” the Minister concluded.

The previous summit in the Normandy format (Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France) was held on December 9, 2019. On February 18, Ukrainian authorities announced the possibility of convening a new meeting in April.
