OREANDA-NEWS  Russia does not rule out any options for responding to Western sanctions, Dmitry Birichevsky, director of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"We do not exclude any options for responding to Western illegitimate restrictions. Appropriate capabilities and tools are available. We are ready for any development of events," he said.

Nevertheless, Moscow is trying to avoid extreme measures, the source said.

"Therefore, I would not like to talk about scenarios of an economic, food and energy "apocalypse", which could lead to the unwinding of the sanctions spiral. Let's be moderately optimistic and hope that common sense will prevail and the Western unfriendly elites will finally get the idea of the futility and inferiority of the sanctions confrontation with Russia," the diplomat stressed.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the West increased sanctions pressure on Moscow. The EU has already put into effect ten packages of restrictions, the last of which is estimated at 11.4 billion euros. At the same time, according to the European Union, exports to Russia decreased by almost half compared to 2021, and imports from it — by almost 60 percent.

The Kremlin called these measures an economic war. As Vladimir Putin noted, the restrictions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy, and the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. Nevertheless, according to the president, it was not possible to undermine Russia's financial stability, and Europe itself has reached a sanctions impasse.
