OREANDA-NEWS South Korea on Wednesday imposed unilateral sanctions against a Russian of Korean origin, who, according to the country's Foreign Ministry, is involved in financing the DPRK's programs to create weapons of mass destruction.

According to the ministry, Choi Jong-kon from Russia was added to the sanctions list of South Korea among four persons - two individuals and two legal entities.

In addition to Choi Jong Kon, the head of the branch of the DPRK Foreign Trade Bank in Vladivostok, So Myung, as well as the companies Hanne Ulaan and Epsilon, were also sanctioned.

The report claims that Choi Jong Kon founded the Hanne Ulaan LCC company in Mongolia to finance Pyongyang's weapons programs.

He is also accused of supporting the financing of Pyongyang by creating a trading firm Epsilon as part of a joint investment partnership with the head of the branch of the DPRK Foreign Trade Bank So Men in Vladivostok.

It is noted that this is the ninth Seoul sanctions against Pyongyang since President Yun Seok-yeon came to power in South Korea, as well as the first case of inclusion in the blacklist of a foreigner of Korean origin.

In a little over a year of Yoon Seok-yong's tenure as president, a total of 45 individuals and 47 legal entities were added to the sanctions list of South Korea.
