OREANDA-NEWS The four annexed regions have asked the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia to hold elections in their territories. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to sources in the commission, the information was confirmed by the deputy chairman of the CEC Nikolay Bulaev.

The desire to hold elections was announced by the heads of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – in all these regions there is a martial law regime (VP), which was introduced immediately after joining Russia in the fall of 2022. According to the new amendments, the CEC must consult with the FSB and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to hold elections.

The amendments themselves on elections in regions with the EAP regime were approved by the Federation Council on May 24. The amendments allow elections to be held in the regions where the EAP operates, based on the results of consultations of the CEC with the Ministry of Defense and the FSB. The heads of subjects with the current EAP have the right not earlier than 130 days and not later than 90 days before the voting day to send a proposal to the CEC on holding elections or a referendum.

For the first time, elections in the annexed territories can be held on a single voting day on September 10. Martial law in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions has been in effect since October 19, 2022.

Earlier, Vedomosti wrote that 40 deputies are planned to be elected to the legislative assembly of the Zaporozhye region, and 90 and 50 deputies will be elected to the parliaments of the DPR and LPR, respectively. At the same time, the authorities of the Kherson region have not yet decided on the exact number of parliamentarians, but according to the interlocutor of Vedomosti, close to the administration, there will be 30-40 deputies in the new legislative assembly.
