OREANDA-NEWS  Several foreign banks are interested in opening branches in Russia and are waiting for "geopolitical decisions," Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov told reporters. "We have heard interest in conversations, but everyone, of course, is waiting for geopolitical decisions.

And after that, there will be some direct solutions. But in general, some of our foreign partners are interested in this - participation in our market," Chebeskov said, answering a question about the establishment of branches of foreign banks in Russia. On September 1, 2024, a law came into force allowing foreign banks to open branches in Russia. Previously, foreign banks could only have subsidiary banks and representative offices in Russia, now a foreign bank can open a branch, but only one.
