OREANDA-NEWS The term of the ban on the export of Russian grain to the EAEU countries is expiring on June 30. The ban was introduced on March 15, 2022, according to the corresponding Government Decree signed on March 14, 2022.

The Russian authorities claimed that such a measure would protect the domestic food market in the context of external restrictions.

The explanatory note to the draft resolution noted that the supply of grain to the countries of the union had increased significantly compared to 2021. "The draft resolution is aimed at preventing the "overflow" of grain to the member states of the EAEU, and also at increasing the effectiveness of the restrictive measures taken by the Russian Federation on the grain market", the document said.

"Of course, this is a temporary measure to preserve volumes within the country. It will help keep prices and cover the needs of domestic consumers and processors", Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko wrote on her Telegram channel.

According to experts, from the beginning of 2022 until the introduction of the ban, the export of grain crops from Russia to the EAEU countries, which is not subject to duties, has doubled compared to the same period last year. At the same time, Russian grain was either re-exported to other countries or replaced domestic grain exported abroad.

It is reported that the Russian Federation annually exports 2-3 million tons of grain to the EAEU countries.
