OREANDA-NEWS. Cineworld, operator of the world’s second largest cinema chain, has announced the closure of all of its cinemas in the USA and Great Britain. This was reported by the newspaper Variety. Cinemas will stop working on October 8. This new led to a collapse in quotations of Cineworld: the company’s shares fell by almost 60 %.

Earlier it was reported that Cineworld is considering the possibility of closing cinemas in the United States, Great Britain Britain and Ireland due to the second wave of coronavirus pandemic and the decision of the film studio Universal to postpone the premieres of the films No Time to Die and Fast and Furious 9 until next year.

In total, the company will close 536 Regal Cinemas in the USA and 127 Cineworld and Picturehouse cinemas in the UK. As the newspaper notes, citing a source, the operator’s management has not yet decided when its cinemas will reopen. It is likely that this will happen in 2021.
