OREANDA-NEWS Domestic specialists have developed a fast and reliable technology for detecting the toxic compound gossypol in food. This is reported with reference to the RNF press service.

Gossypol is concentrated in the seeds and roots of plants to protect them from harmful insects and ultraviolet radiation. It can get into the human body, for which it is also toxic, together with food and cottonseed oil. The express test created by specialists of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) and their colleagues from other universities and scientific organizations is designed to protect consumers from this threat.
