OREANDA-NEWS. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) has commissioned Implenia to carry out a challenging road and tunnel project. The job on Norway’s north-western coast requires Implenia to rebuild another section of the E39, the main route between Bergen and Trondheim.

Implenia has been asked to repair and expand the road between Bj?set and Skei on the north shore of Lake J?lstra in order to cope with higher traffic volumes and to make the road safer for users. Around 3,500 vehicles drive along the section each day, but it no longer meets the required standards. The project includes resurfacing the road and replacing the frost protection along an 11 km stretch, as well as widening the lanes in some places. Additionally, Implenia will be building a new 6.5 km pedestrian and cycle path between ?rdal and Skei. Five bridges are also needed, two of which are meant for pedestrians and bicycles. The work on this extensive infrastructure project commences in February 2017 and will take place while the road is still in use.

“We’re looking forward to starting this exciting project,” said Stig Ingar Evje, CEO of Implenia Norway, when the contract was signed. The project, worth NOK 319 million (CHF 38 million), will be completed and ready for traffic in 2019. Implenia has won the order thanks to its comprehensive expertise in complex infrastructure jobs and its good market position in Norway.
