OREANDA-NEWS. In January-April 2007, the port of Yuzhny handled 7,295.2 thou tons (+1,4%, year-on-year), the port’s press center reports. In the four-month period the port handled 5,026.2 thou tons of cargo (+3,6%, year-on-year).

Over the reported period it handled 391 vessels and 54,518 open-top wagons. In April 2007, the port’s throughput totaled 1,798.2 thou tons (-0,9%, year-on-year). It handled 1,372.3 thou tons of cargo (+16,9%): 112 vessels and 13,051 open-top wagons.

Yuzhny port is the largest and most deep-water port complex of Ukraine capable of handling 100,000-dwt vessels. The port specializes on transshipment of liquid chemicals, grain, coal and containers. There are berths for export shipment of bulk and general cargo. Major directions of transportation are the basins of the Black and Mediterranean Seas, Latin America, USA, Middle East, South-East Asia.
