OREANDA-NEWS. On August 07, 2007 Belarus meets its commitments to Russia in gas payments, Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky told journalists during the visit to Brest oblast, reported the Official website http://www.government.by.

As for the energy, the Prime Minister noted that on the whole the Belarusian side copes with the increase in prices for energy carriers. “Ministries and companies engaged in the introduction of energy saving technologies have some problems. However, these top priority issues are considered at different levels,” the Prime Minister said. He added that in 2006 Belarus undertook measures to implement the energy saving program that reduced GDP energy intensity by 14-17%. GDP growth made nearly 9% over the seven months of 2007.

“Not a single post-Soviet country shows such rates in the economic development what proves that the Belarusian economy manages the situation,” the Prime Minister said.
