On December 04, 2007 Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways, Valentina Matviyenko, governor of Saint Petersburg, and Sergey Tsybukov, managing director of the Komsomol Pravda Science and Production Association, took part in the opening ceremony of a Polymeric Innovation Centre in Saint Petersburg, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

“A high-tech cluster has been created whose nucleus consists of customers and users of its innovations and advances, namely Russian Railways, Trans-MashHolding and the underground,” noted Vladimir Yakunin.

The project aims to develop innovative technologies capable of creating and processing structural polymers, producing experimental batches and introducing them across a broad front.

According to Yakunin, “we expect the creation of the Engineering Polymeric Centre to increase Russia’s intellectual capability and global competitiveness in developing the technologies for producing materials and products from polymers on the domestic and international markets.”
