OREANDA-NEWS Seismologists in the Philippines recommend evacuating people from areas at the foot of the Mayon volcano due to the eruption, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

On Friday, a moderately powerful eruption occurred on the Mayon volcano, as a result of which a column of ash rose to a height of 3,000 meters above the crater at the top.

"Due to the danger of pyroclastic flows, lava flows, rockfalls and other volcanic hazards, it is recommended to evacuate people from the danger zone with a radius of six kilometers," PHIVOLCS said in a statement.

Philippine seismologists also clarified that ash deposition is most likely on the southern slope of the volcano.
