OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2007. Almost one and half million kroons were given for those in need during EMT's charity campaign Christmas Calendar 2007.  The donations for various causes totaled 1,478,830 kroons, reported the press-centre of EMT.

The largest share, 465,420 kroons, was collected to support abandoned animals.  EMT partnered for this cause with NPO Kassiabi, Heateo Foundation project "Paike kuuti!" and animal shelters in Tallinn, Voru and Parnu.  Donations will be used to provide animals with foster homes, as well as the care, treatment and activities for them while in the shelter.

To sponsor pastime activities for orphans, 413,770 kroons was collected.  There are about 1600 school-age kids in Estonian orphanages without the chance to play sports, pursue hobbies, take part in their school skiing day or go hiking with their classmates since orphanages don't have the budget for such expenses.  EMT has partnered with NPO Caritas, the foundation to help Estonian orphanage kids be active, for this cause to provide an opportunity to open their horizons and feel equal with the kids from regular homes.

Tallinn Pediatric Hospital received 408,310 kroons from EMT customers. The funds will be used to purchase a DICOM system for the hospital's radiology department. The system allows high-resolution imaging of small-weight, premature babies. Tallinn Pediatric Hospital treats newborns whose weight starts from as low as 400 grams, and the catheters and cannulas used on them are extremely fine and difficult to observe with regular computer imaging.

191,130 kroons was donated for the support of hearing impaired kids. Families with a hearing impaired child or schools for those kids need devices to assure communication when eye contact is lost for young sign language users. Donations will be shared equally among the Hiie School in Tartu, the Helen School in Tallinn, the Estonian Association of Parents with Hearing Impaired Kids, and the Association of Estonian Children with Hearing Implants.

In the framework of the Christmas Calendar 2007 campaign, EMT customers were asked to send from December 1st to 23rd a text message with the keyword matching the charity project of their choice. The message cost of 10 kroons and the entire amount went toward charity.

It was the 5th year for EMT to organize the Christmas charity campaign. A total of 7 million kroons from EMT customers has been donated during these years.
Their donations in 2006 amounted to more than 1.3 million kroons. The funds were used to purchase a children's ambulance for the Tallinn Pediatric Hospital, start construction of the snow leopard exhibition, support children with hearing impairment and cleft lip and palate, and purchase a sonograph.

More than 1,6 million kroons was donated for the needy in 2005. Funds were used to renovate a family therapy room at the oncology department of a pediatric hospital, support hearing impaired children, purchase an ultrasound scalpel for the maternity ward and provide for the foster homes of shelter animals.

EMT customers donated 1,3 million kroons in 2004 to purchase ultrasound equipment and special communications devices for the hearing impaired, support animal shelters everywhere in Estonia, and organizations dealing with children at risk.

In 2003, more than 1,5 million kroons was donated for the needy. Funds were assigned to buy an infant resuscitation cot, organize leisure activities for at risk children and improve the living conditions at Tallinn animal shelters.

EMT and partners sincerely thank each and every donor.
