OREANDA-NEWS. On 10 April 2008 was announced, that EAST LINE Group will commence the implementation of the next stage of Moscow International Airport Domodedovo development and will begin the construction of Passenger Terminal 2 in early 2009.

Terminal 2 will adjoin the existing building of the passenger terminal from current international flights sector side and will be dedicated to serving international flights. In addition to the Terminal 2 itself the project features a boarding gallery with 19 air bridges, aircraft stands as well as relevant infrastructure with road junctions.

The projected cost of the development is 10 billion rubles and it will be funded using EAST LINE Group’s own resources.

The project will be implemented in three stages. During Stage 1, the new building of Terminal 2 together with boarding gallery with 8 air bridges will be constructed and put in operation by 2011 to cover 92 thousand square meters capable of handling between 4 and 5 million passengers per year.

Stage 2 works scheduled to be completed by 2015 include the extension of the boarding gallery towards apron and further expansion of Terminal 2 floor space.  The terminal capacity will amount to 8-9 million people per year.

Within Stage 3 due in 2019, the boarding gallery will be further extended. Upon completion, the total area of Terminal 2 will be 270 thousand square meters with throughput of 14-15 million passengers a year.

Terminal 2 is designed to dramatically reduce the service time per passenger; the new terminal service technologies will be implementing a multi-level approach. Level One is designed for welcoming arriving passengers while Level Two will be at the disposal of the departures. Dedicated areas will be organized for first/business class and VIP passengers and delegations at Level Three. Terminal 2 will accommodate offices and business lounges of airlines, travel centre, a special area for transfer passengers, and concessions.

Terminal 2 project design features skywalks connection with a landside hotel at the level of the third floor and special pathways for passengers arriving by light railway.

Designing of the 10 billion rubles worth Terminal 3 is scheduled to start this year.
