OREANDA-NEWS. On June 30, 2008 Uzbektelecom company held a shareholders meeting in Tashkent to consider the results of the activity in 2007. Vice Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, who is chairman of the Uzbektelecom supervisory board, conducted the meeting, reported the Official website www.gov.uz.

Uzbektelecom is the largest telecom operator of Uzbekistan, and its network covers the whole of the country’s territory. It is also the largest telecom service provider to state bodies and departments.

Uzbektelecom implemented a number of large projects in 2007. The company drew almost UZS 40 billion of investments from all sources.

Jointly with Chinese Development Bank and Huawei Technologies, Uzbektelecom is implementing an investment project of reconstruction and development of own telecommunications network.

The total earnings of the company last year made up UZS 177.5 billion, which is 14.6% up against 2006.

Uzbektelecom’s plans for 2008 include modernization and expansion of the communications networks, especially in the rural areas. The company will also continue construction of the Tashkent-Bukhara transport network, reconstruct the international commutation center and expand the bandwidth of the internet channel.
