OREANDA-NEWS. On January 14, 2009 Mr. Jaroslav Neverovic, Chairman of LitPolLink Management Board and Prof. Wladyslaw Mielczarski, Chairman of Supervisory Board of LitPolLink and the EU-appointed Project Coordinator, participated in a meeting with Mr.Andrius Kubilius, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania who is on his first foreign visit in Poland. During the meeting the management of LitPolLink presented the operational plan of the project, reported the press-centre of LitPolLink.

The project progress of the interconnection between Lithuania and Poland, activity trends defined in the operational plan were addressed: preparation of special and technical plans, inclusion of the track into local government plans on the Polish side, environmental and other issues important for the implementation of the project. 

"The meeting showed that this project is supported by Lithuanian and Polish Governments as well as the European Commission. Mr. Andrius Kubilius, the Prime Minister, ack the work progress and is convinced that this project would be given a special attention by Lithuanian Government and European Commission to ensure necessary support ", - says Prof. Wladyslaw Mielczarski, EU-appointed Project Coordinator.

According to Jaroslav Neverovic, Chairman of the Management Board, the project seeks to prepare for the construction of the power link while complying with all the EU requirements covering valuable nature sites since the line’s track on both sides of the border is in the vicinity of the Natura-2000 sites.

The construction of the interconnection is to be launched in 2010.

LitPolLink is the joint venture of the national investment company LEO LT’s subsidiary Lietuvos Energija AB and Polish company PSE-Operator S.A which aims to implement the electricity interconnection project between the power systems of both countries. The Lithuanian and Polish power interconnection is one the four strategic projects of the national investment company LEO LT AB group companies, included into the EU priority project list.
