OREANDA-NEWS. On March 27, 2009 The first meeting of the Public Advisory Council at the Omsk Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (OFAS Russia) took place, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

Similar to other constituent territories of the Russian Federation, the Omsk Public Advisory Council comprises representative of educational institutions, non-commercial partnerships and business associations.

For instance, representatives of such Omsk regional organizations as the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, "Delovaya Rossia [Business Russia], the Union of Entrepreneurs, and others took part in the meeting. Research and scientific community, represented by Omsk State Technical University, was also actively involved in the work of the Council.

Mr Sumenkov, the Council Chairman and the Head of the Omsk OFAS Russia, informed the participants on the activities of the Omsk OFAS Russia, and the results achieved in 2008, and on the objectives of the Public Advisory Council.

Mr Shalai, the Rector of Omsk State Technical University brought out his opinion about the work of the Public Advisory Council: "I consider the Public Advisory Council as a stage for a productive dialogue. We would most like if during our meetings we find mutual understanding of the emerging problems, get explanations regarding interpretation of the laws, and be able to raise concerns. That is why I decided to personally participate in the Council meetings".

Some of the important tasks facing the Council are monitoring the FAS Russia's activities and preparing reports on observation of public interests in the work of the antimonopoly bodies.

To achieve effective fulfillment of these targets, the Council appointed responsible executives for various Council's activities.

"We expect that members of the Council will inform us on the emerging problems and held us resolve them at the working meetings and sessions of the Council", said Mr Sumenkov. "The goal of our cooperation is to ensure that the work of the Antimonopoly Service is approved by the community".

The Public Advisory Council discussed specifics of the antimonopoly legislation and recent changes to it, prices for oil products and the Programme for Developing Competition.

The Council also approved the Activity Plan for 2009.
