Ukrainian Govt Obtained 1st Funds from Trade in Carbon Dioxide Quotas
OREANDA-NEWS. May 11, 2009. The Government has received UAH 640 mn from sales of quotas for the carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko disclosed during the selector meeting with representatives of regional authorities.
“These 640 million hryvnyas are planned to direct into our key program on reconstruction, modernization and change of boilers which are outdated and functioning on the natural gas nowadays,” the Head of Government stressed.
Yulia Tymoshenko explained in the nearest weeks the second tranche from trade in quotas is due so that the total sum will amount around UAH 2 bn.
Moreover, Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that in particular these resources are to finance change of boilers operating on the natural gas, of heat pump systems at the elaborated projects for the current year and also upgrade of boiler-rooms of huge capacity from natural gas into other kinds of fuel.
The Head of Government empowered local authorities to activate the work in preparation of such projects. “The first funds have to be directed for these purposes from the next week already,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Yulia Tymoshenko also aired a register of boiler-houses of the country has been formed (over 72 thousand of boilers and 31 thousand of boiler-houses) which need modernization, reconstruction or replacement.
