OREANDA-NEWS. July 9, 2009. In the first half of 2009, Port Vanino OJSC (Khabarovsk Territory) handled 2.942 million tonnes of cargo (-almost 14.7%), the company states. In June the company Port Vanino handled 520,100 tonnes of cargo (-5.1%, year-on-year).

In the 6-month period, export accounted for 51.3% of the total volume – 1.509 million tonnes of different cargoes (-7.6%, year-on-year). Export of timber fell by 26.1% to 598,300 tonnes, while export of non-ferrous metal and coal increased by 2.7% and 70% to 377,400 tonnes and to 513,600 tonnes respectively.

In January-June 2009, the company handled 633,600 tonnes of import cargo (86% against January-June 2008) including 616,000 tonnes of alumina (+4.7%) and 14,500 tonnes of containerized cargo (+5.1%).

In the first half of the current year transshipment of coastal trade cargo totaled 174,500 tonnes (-7.3%) including 46,400 tonnes of coal (up 2-fold) and 95,600 tonnes of containerized cargo (-12.5%). 624,900 tonnes of cargo were transported by Vanino-Kholmsk ferry service (70.1% against January-June 2008).

In the reported period the port handled 639 vessels including 276 ferries and 37,100 wagons. The port’s container throughput amounted to 13,627 TEU.

Vanino Commercial Seaport OJSC is the largest stevedoring company of Khabarovsk region. It provides handling and forwarding services. Cargo is delivered via Vanino to the north-eastern regions of Russia, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of APR. In 2008 the company handled 6.621 million tonnes of cargo. As of June 3, 2009, the state owns 55% of the company’s shares (73.33% of ordinary shares).
