OREANDA-NEWS. September 07, 2009. The first production line of “Olimp” (Olympus) buses on KAMAZ chassis was presented in Vologda.

The production was established on the premises of the Vologodsky Machine Building Plant (VMBP), the partner of KAMAZ developing and producing special equipment – also on KAMAZ chassis (truck tankers, tank trailers, tank semitrailers, chill tanks for milk, etc.). Last year the share of KAMAZ chassis in the production of VMBP reached 46%, and this year it was 59%.

According to Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of KAMAZ Inc., who made a speech at the presentation, Vologda Region is a zone where KAMAZ trucks usually prevail. To date they make 57% of the whole regional truck fleet.

The “Olimp” bus the serial production of which started on VMBP is a city, low entry bus. Specialists of the KAMAZ R&D Center jointly with their colleagues from VMBP worked on this project for almost two years. The bus is equipped with the Cummins Euro-3 engine and the Voith automatic gearbox. The roominess of the bus is 100 people. Sergey Kogoghin expressed confidence that “the ecological “Olimp” will help Vologda and Vologda Region to solve problems of passenger transport”.

By the end of the year KAMAZ will have delivered the first 40 bus chassis to VMBP. The auto producers of Vologda plan to grow production of “Olimp” buses, especially as because not only Vologda Region, but also its neighboring regions need up-to-date and high-tech passenger transport. Currently the experts of VMBP and KAMAZ are designing a low-floor bus working on gas fuel.
