OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2009. A delegation of Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) visited Atomergoprom’s companies – Mashinostroitelny Zavod (Elemash) and Angarsk Electrolysis Chemical Complex (AECC) Sept 16–21 2009.

The delegation comprised representatives of the biggest Japanese companies acting in the energy sector: Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited, Toshiba Corporation, Hitachi, Sumitomo Corporation, Sojitz Corporation, Mitsui Corporation, etc..

The objective of the Japanese manufacturers and businessmen was to see the Russian facilities converting and enriching uranium and producing nuclear fuel so as to consider ways to enlarge cooperation in the framework of the Russian-Japanese inter-governmental agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy signed in May 2009.

During their visit to Elemash (Moscow region) the Japanese delegates familiarized themselves with the plant’s nuclear fuel production technologies. They visited the automated fuel element production and assembly shops. Vice President of TVEL OJSC Pyotr Lavrenyuk, Director General of Elemash Oleg Kryukov and representatives of Atomenergoprom and Afrikantov OKBM told the guests about the Russian producers of nuclear fuel.

At AECC (Irkutsk region) the Japanese delegation visited the chemical and separation facilities, Chelnok-A uranium hexafluoride transfer section, the central laboratory. Director of AECC Alexander Belousov welcomed the guests and told them about the activities and technologies of his company. The Japanese showed special interest in the activities of the International Uranium Enrichment Center established on the basis of AECC.
