OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2009. A terminal for trans-shipment of cereals, situated at the Giurgiulesti-based Free International Port, southern Moldova, received the first three ships which are to be loaded with 5,100 tons of barley and 3,300 tons of wheat.

As much as 25,000 tons of wheat and barley are scheduled to be loaded on different ships in October in all. The goods are meant for Mediterranean countries.

A media officer of the International Free Port, Olesea Cojusko, has said that the ships Kaptan Adem and Spadina are to enter the port today to be loaded with 1,850 tons of wheat, and respectively, 3,250 tons of barley, as well as the ship Richmond, which will carry 3,300 tons of wheat. This is for the first time that ships are loaded with cereals at the terminal after it was put into operation last July.

The terminal for cereals' trans-shipment, constructed by the commercial society Trans Cargo Terminal Ltd in concert with the state enterprise Logistics Ltd, can daily receive up to 3,000 tons of cereals shipped by road and railway transport. The terminal is endowed with a modern laboratory and has a stocking capacity of 50,000 tons: the terminal for cereals' trans-shipment is the biggest on the Danube. As much as 17 million dollars was invested in this project.
