OREANDA-NEWS. May 11, 2011. The degree of coverage of import by export in January-March 2011 amounted to 43.5% against 39.6% in the same period last year, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics.

In the first quarter of 2011, Moldova increased its export by 58.2 percent in comparison with the same period of 2010 – to USD 478.6 million, and import grew 44 percent – to USD 1 billion 99.2 million. Moldovan exports to the CIS states increased by 52.2 percent – to USD 175.9 million, and to the European Union states – by 58.1% - to USD 243.1 million. The share of the CIS countries in the total Moldovan exports in the first three months of 2011 reduced from 38.2 percent to 36.8 percent, the share of the EU states – from 50.9 percent to 50.8 percent.

In January-March 2011 Moldovan increased import from the CIS countries by 43.1 percent – to USD 411.2 million, from the EU countries – by 45.6 percent – to USD 445.4 million. The share if CIS countries in the total volume of Moldovan imports decreased from 37.6% to 37.4%, that of the EU countries – increased from 40.1 percent to 40.5 percent.

The biggest deficit of the balance of trade in the first quarter of this year was reported with Russia - USD 118.4 million. It was followed by Ukraine - USD 96.1 million, China - USD 77.2 million, Germany - USD 49.4 million, Turkey - USD 49.1 million, Romania - USD 32.2 million, Italy- USD 18.8 million, Belarus – USD 16.9 million, Hungary – USD 16.3 million, Greece – USD 13.4 million. The data of the Office for National Statistics do not include the trade-economic operations of the Transnistrian region’s enterprises.
