OREANDA-NEWS. June 27, 2011. On his appointment as Director on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Mr. M.K. Dube, 57, has assumed charge as Director (Industrial Systems & Products) of the Navratna Public Sector engineering and manufacturing enterprise, here today.

Prior to this, he was heading the company’s Heavy Electrical Plant at Bhopal as Executive Director. A Mechanical Engineer from Maulana Azad Collge of Technology (now MANIT), Bhopal, Mr. Dube joined BHEL as an Engineer Trainee in 1976. He has 35 years of diversified and versatile professional experience through working in major segments of BHEL.

Under his stewardship, the company’s Bhopal plant achieved many milestones including the successful manufacture and testing of India’s first 1200 kV, 333 MVA Auto Transformer and the development of Insulated Gate Bi-polar Transistor (IGBT) based traction convertor for 3 phase drive technology in the EMU segment. As a capability buiding initiative, a modern state-of-the-art manufacturing plant of 12,000 MVA at Bhopal was set up to manufacture large sized EHV, HVDC and UHVAC transformers and reactors, enhancing the total capacity to 30,000 MVA for Transformers.

Earlier, as Executive Director, Mr. Dube headed BHEL’s Power Sector Technical Services division responsible for monitoring the performance of BHEL-supplied equipment, enabling the processes of performance testing and troubleshooting as well as exploring solutions to generic issues in power generating equipment.

As GM (Monitoring), he spearheaded operations monitoring for completion of physical and financial targets; dovetailing strategic plans to operating plans; preparation of budgets in line with operating plans and ensuring accomplishment of budgeted parameters through regular review & monitoring of operations. Mr. Dube also participated in finalisation of BHEL’s MoU and preparing the Balanced Score Card of the company.

Mr. Dube also headed BHEL’s Hydro Division at Bhopal, looking after concept to delivery of Hydro Turbines of various ratings, including preparation of offers for order booking, material planning, design, manufacturing, equipment testing, cash collection and providing after sales services to customers. He was also instrumental in establishing the state-of-the-art new CNC Hydro Block for further increasing the manufacturing capacity of Hydro Turbines.

For his contribution to the field of hydro power, Mr. Dube was awarded the ENERTIA award 2010.
