OREANDA-NEWS. October 4, 2011. Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Navratna PSE under Ministry of Power and the Central Transmission Utility (CTU) of the country, has commissioned the transmission system for evacuation of power from the first Ultra Mega Power Project in the country at Mundra, in the State of Gujarat, on September 29, 2011. The system commissioned consists of high capacity Mundra-Bachau-Ranchodpura 400 kV Double circuit line along with 630 MVA Bachau 400/220 kV sub-station, part of the transmission system associated with Mundra UMPP being implemented by POWERGRID at an estimated cost of about Rs. 5,000 Crore.

About 770 ckm. transmission line has been commissioned in challenging conditions like passing through tough terrains in creek area of Arabian Sea, severe right of way problems, excessive water logging due to heavy rains, etc.

The line is ready to evacuate power from two (2) Units of Mundra UMPP (2X800MW) in normal condition and more than 1200 MW in the contingency, from today onwards.

The commissioning has been made possible with unstinted support of Ministry of Power & Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited, Officials of State Government of Gujarat, Coastal Gujarat Power Limited, local administration authority and the local people of Gujarat. The partners of POWERGRID viz., Gammon India, Tata Projects, ICOMM, and Siemens also played a vital role in commissioning of this project.
