OREANDA-NEWS. March 27, 2012. In 2011, in accordance with the United Metallurgical Company’s strategy for development in export markets, OMK started implementing the project for expansion of its representation in the United States.

In late 2011, OMK completed a transaction for buying a Texas-based plant, TTS. The plant finishes OCTG pipes with a capacity of 150 thousand tonnes a year. The transaction amount is not disclosed.

As part of the project, a trading company was established and a project was launched to construct an OCTG plant with a capacity of 150-200 thousand tonnes of pipes a year. The plant is expected to reach the designed capacity as early as 2013. It is planned to provide the new pipe production with raw materials supplied by Vyksa-based Casting and Rolling Complex.

It is planned that the implementation of this project will enable OMK increase its OCTG pipe sales in the United States to 200 thousand tonnes in 2014.

Implementation of this project will make it possible to achieve the following:

• to increase OMK product sales in the world’s largest market for welded pipes, the United States market;

• to create an effective production chain: CRC – Pipe Plant – pipe finishing at TTS – customers in the North American market;

• to integrate the VSW facilities with U.S.-based pipe finishing;

• to establish U.S.-based production of pipe types that cannot by supplied by VSW;

• to organize OMK’s direct shipments to final VSW pipe customers in the United States.
