OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2012. Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems enters final straight as the manufacture of the communications satellite Yamal-300K is nearing completion. The company has already installed antennas on the spacecraft – an integral part of its communications payload.

The communications satellite Yamal-300K is being built by ISS-Reshetnev in compliance with the highest world-class standards and in close cooperation with foreign companies. Two of the five transmit/receive antennas accommodated by the spacecraft were manufactured by Information Satellite Systems, while three ones were delivered by a Canadian company MDA. The two companies are also implementing several joint projects apart from Yamal-300K.

According to Oleg Belov, head of the antenna systems engineering and payload assembly department at ISS-Reshetnev, “MDA technologies are well-proven. The antenna reflector surface, transmission coefficient and antenna performance meet high standards.”

Two large-sized contour beam antennas supplied by the Canadian company will increase antenna efficiency and provide the specified coverage area in the Russian territory. The radiation pattern of this type will help use the antenna capacity in the most effective way, enabling the spacecraft to provide enhanced television broadcasting and Internet services.

Yamal-300K is soon to undergo acoustic and vibration tests. ISS-Reshetnev experts will check the satellite’s ability to withstand mechanical loads imparted on it during transportation and orbit insertion phases. The spacecraft will be subjected to this verification with its solar batteries installed on it, whereas they will be removed for the next experimental stage - electrical testing.

Yamal-300K is being built by ISS-Reshetnev for Gazprom Space Systems. It is designed to provide a comprehensive range of satellite-delivered solutions: communications, television broadcasting and Internet access.
