OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2012. The State Committee of the Republic of Karelia for Information and Communication Technology Development hosted a working meeting of the Committee Chairman Dmitry Burakov with Boris Zuyev, Director of the Department of the Federal Postal Service of the Republic of Karelia, branch of the Russian Post Federal State Unitary Enterprise.

Participants of the meeting have discussed an opportunity of using post offices as elements of the infrastructure of the e-Government of the Republic of Karelia.

At the moment, 107 post offices of the republic have public Internet access points that enables the citizens to submit applications to receive the state and municipal e-services through the Uniform Portal of the Government and Municupal Services and the Portal of the Government and Municupal Services of the Republic of Karelia.

During the meeting the arrangement was reached to expand the number of workplaces in the countryside on the basis of post offices where citizens will be able to submit applications to receive state and municipal services. For this purpose in the near term it is necessary to deliver necessary computer equipment to the post offices, to establish public Internet access points to portals of the state and municipal services in all post offices, and to conduct the necessary personnel training.

As experience of other regions of the country confirms, creation and use of such system of public Internet access points to portals of the state and municipal services on the basis of a network of post offices allows to cut down expenses of the budget of the republic essentially.

On results of the meeting it was decided to prepare a draft agreement on cooperation between Radiocom State Unitary Enreprise, operator of the e-Government of the Republic of Karelia, and Federal Postal Service of the Republic of Karelia.
