OREANDA-NEWS. October 03, 2012. Maryland Oncology Hematology (MOH), united in healing with The US Oncology Network, announced today that the physicians of Oncology Care Associates joined its staff of cancer care providers. With the addition of board-certified physicians, Drs. Cheryl Aylesworth and Linda Burrell, Maryland Oncology Hematology has 15 physicians available to provide high-quality care to cancer patients in Maryland and parts of Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. , reported the press-centre of McKesson.

"Drs. Aylesworth and Burrell are great additions to Maryland Oncology Hematology," said Jon Minford, M.D., practice president, MOH. "Their expertise in the fields of oncology and hematology is impressive. They are passionate about caring for patients, and that's always a quality we admire."

Drs. Aylesworth and Burrell now treat patients at their current office in Wheaton, Maryland, but will eventually move to an expanded office in Silver Spring, Maryland. Physicians with Maryland Oncology Hematology also treat patients in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and in Owings Mills, Columbia, Greenbelt, and Laurel, Maryland. The Silver Spring physicians will expand their presence in Montgomery and Prince George's counties and both physicians are eager to have clinic opportunities in the other offices.

Dr. Aylesworth received her Medical Doctorate from the Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in medicine and her fellowship in hematology and oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In addition to being published several times, Dr. Aylesworth was the recipient of multiple awards including the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Clinical Teacher Fellow of the Year. Dr. Aylesworth also served in the military where she was Chief of the Drug Development Clinic at Brooke Army Medical Center Fort Sam Houston in Texas. She worked to develop many of the current standard chemotherapy agents. This is an area of interest that Maryland Oncology Hematology hopes to grow in the coming months.

"Joining the incredible physicians of Maryland Oncology Hematology is a win win for us and our patients," said Dr. Aylesworth. "As part of the practice and The US Oncology Network, we will be able to enhance our patient care with an increased presence in the local hospitals, collaborate with physicians across the country to discuss best practices and complex cases, and bring more clinical trial options. Additionally, we hope to expand the current availability of assistance in managing the rigors of a new diagnosis by hiring a social worker."

Dr. Burrell received her Medical Doctorate from SUNY-Upstate Medical Center. She completed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in hematology and oncology from Walter Reed Army Medical Center. While there, Dr. Burrell received numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Medal and Outstanding Medical Resident, and she held the esteemed position, Director of Bone Marrow Transplant. She's also been published several times in journals including Radiology and American Journal of Hematology.

"When it comes to providing high-quality cancer care, the physicians and staff of Maryland Oncology Hematology have the same goals and values as I do," said Dr. Burrell. "Our patients and the care we can give them are top priorities."
