OREANDA-NEWS. October 9, 2012. Tata Power, through its wholly owned subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL) which is developing the 4,000MW Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project, today announced another unique initiative, Project Annapurna. Through this project, CGPL will install biogas units and create awareness about clean energy amongst villagers. This project is in line with Tata Power’s commitment towards a green and clean environment.

Under this initiative, six biogas units, in association with Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation, were installed to provide cooking support to 40 people. For the success of the project, the company also approached Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Society to create awareness about the usage and advantages of bio gas.

Speaking on the initiative, KK Sharma, chief, Mundra project, said, “Through this initiative, the company intends to increase promotion of biogas utilisation which will benefit the local community to a great extent and also protect the people from chronic diseases arising out of burning wood and coal. Going forward, we plan to take Project Annapurna to more door steps in surrounding villages.”

The company also arranged seminars to impart training to the villagers on operation and maintenance of biogas plant to make them self-supporting.
