OREANDA-NEWS. October 10, 2012. Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko has demanded that economically unjustified imports of agricultural products should be replaced with home-made farm products.

The president made a statement to that effect on October at a government conference, which discussed economic solutions for the country’s agricultural sector.

In addition to promoting domestic production of cereals, meat, fruits and vegetables, Lukashenko emphasized the importance of creating proper storage facilities.

The president also accentuated the fact that the government will gradually reduce direct subsidies for the agricultural sector in the context of agreements in the framework of the Customs Union with Russia and Kazakhstan.
