OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Consultancy Services (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), the leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation, has been named the Official IT Consulting Company sponsor for the flagship NYC Half 2013, owned and operated by New York Road Runners (NYRR), on Sunday, March 17, 2013. This is the fourth consecutive year that TCS has sponsored major US road races, including the Boston, ING New York City and Bank of America Chicago marathons.

TCS and New York Road Runners will introduce the ’NYC Half 2013 Mobile App Powered by TCS‘. Successfully deployed at the Chicago, Mumbai, Bangalore and Amsterdam marathons, also sponsored by TCS, the customised mobile app provides a range of exciting, race-specific features for runners as well as enthusiasts who want to keep track of the event, including race results, an interactive course map, a race calendar with details on local attractions, and elite athlete information, as well as event communications and alerts.

“We are happy to again be working with NYRR to support the NYC Half 2013,” said N Chandrasekaran, chief executive officer and managing director for TCS. “The dedication, mental fortitude and physical stamina that is required of each and every participant in this year’s NYC half marathon is a testament to the power of the human mind and body. As a distance runner myself, I strive to bring this strength and dedication into both my personal and professional life.”

This sponsorship is part of the company’s expanded relationship with NYRR. In 2012, TCS served as a partner company for NYRR’s Mighty Milers Youth Running Programs and as a gold level partner for NYRR’s Youth Jamboree in October 2012.

“At TCS, it is our mission to encourage a healthy lifestyle among our employees,” said Surya Kant, president, North America, UK and Europe for TCS. “As part of that mission, we regularly partner with major marathons and races in the US and around the world to drive engagement with a larger community. This year, I’m pleased to say that we will have employees from TCS in attendance both as spectators and runners. We believe occasions such as these are excellent opportunities for employees to come together for a common cause and to support each other in their training and preparation.”

In sponsoring these events and in keeping with TCS’ commitment to corporate sustainability, the company will engage with runners, friends and family, and the broader community to share its commitment to health and fitness. Specifically, TCS has partnered with the American Heart Association to raise awareness and funds to help combat heart disease and stroke. The NYC Half 2013 will feature more than 50 runners on Team TCS including the CEO, Mr Chandrasekaran. All proceeds raised by Team TCS at the NYC Half 2013 will go to the American Heart Association.
