OREANDA-NEWS. Severstal, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steel and steel-related mining companies, hosted a World Steel Association (worldsteel) maintenance and reliability survey meeting in Saint Petersburg from 25 March to 27 March.

Among the participants of the meeting were most of the world’s leading steelmakers, including Baosteel, JFE Steel, Metinvest, POSCO, Rautaruukki, Severstal, Tata Steel, ThyssenKrupp, US Steel.

It’s the first time that a worldsteel maintenance and reliability survey project meeting has been hosted in Russia. The agenda for the meeting included presentations of best practices in management of equipment reliability. The participants were presenting practical recommendations to reduce the cost of maintenance and increase its efficiency. During the last day of the meeting the participants had a tour to Izhora pipe mill and Mill 5000 — Severstal production facilities in Kolpino (Saint Petersburg).

The meeting in Saint Petersburg is the closing event in a series of maintenance and reliability survey meetings held by worldsteel. The reliability performance of 50 plants has been analysed and summarised. The process of developing an ongoing database for worldsteel members is a key outcome to allow members to understand the losses and their impact on the operation. The project aims to enhance the efficiency of maintenance and to select the 10 best practices for their presentation to the managing committee of worldsteel in May 2013 in Chicago, USA.
