OREANDA-NEWS.  April 23, 2013. HK Electric has recently launched its Smart Power Campaign 2013 in joint efforts with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club Media 21 (M21) to encourage the younger generations to promote a low carbon lifestyle using short movies.

At a workshop held last Saturday (13 April 2013) to kick off this year’s campaign, some 200 “Happy Green Ambassadors” were appointed and learned how to conceptualise and create these short movies to promote green messages.

HK Electric General Manager (Public Affairs) Ms. Mimi Yeung said, “The Smart Power Campaign has been well received since its launch 10 years ago. With the increasing popularity of sharing video clips on social media, we want to harness this element to our campaign and encourage young people to promote low carbon living by using new media.”

As guest speakers at the workshop, HK Electric Environmental Affairs Manager Mr. T.Y. Ip and film producer Mr. Nickel Liong shared on how to achieve a low carbon lifestyle and produce short movies. To allow students to apply what they have learnt, HK Electric and M21 are organising “Be Green, Be Happy” short movies competition. “Happy Green Schools” may form teams to produce movies of up to five minutes each to illustrate their low carbon actions on campus. All entries must be submitted on or before 6 September 2013 to compete for awards including “Best Screenplay Writing”, “Best Production” and “Best Actor/Actress”.

Following the workshop last Saturday, student ambassadors will be invited to join training classes in May to gain hands-on experience in script-writing, filming and editing at M21.

Since its inception in 2003, the HK Electric Smart Power Campaign has been organised every year to encourage the general public, and in particular students, to save energy and preserve the environment. The “Happy Green Schools” label programme launched in 2012 recognised 115 secondary, primary and special schools actively promoting green messages. This year, the network has expanded to include 193 schools, which will organise low carbon activities to compete for the top “Happy Green Schools” awards at the end of the year.

In addition to the workshops and competition, other activities, such as roving exhibitions, school talks, eco-tours and guided visits to Smart Power Centre, will be organised under the Campaign.
