OREANDA-NEWS. According to a survey conducted by the Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain (ILOS) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), the Carajas Railway (EFC) in the state of Para has been deemed Brazil’s most efficient railway in 2013. The survey asked 100 large-sized companies to evaluate which Brazilian railway they considered to be the most efficient.

One of the reasons for this positive evaluation is the railway’s function in transporting iron ore, which ensures its high reliability. Another question in the survey evaluated the rate of metric tons transported per kilometre (TKM) for the railways. In this category, the EFC demonstrated a productivity of 103 billion TKM. In addition to this, the railway registered only four accidents per million kilometres, one of the lowest rates in Brazil. The EFC came second in this category, losing only to the Vitoria-Minas Railway (EFVM), also belonging to Vale. Overall, the EFC earned 6.8 points on a scale of 0 to 10.
