OREANDA-NEWS. As part of cooperation in research and development in the sphere of hydropower generation between Hydro-Quebec, the world's largest hydropower producer, and EuroSibEnergo, Russia's largest independent power company, EuroSibEnergo's specialists visited Canada in June.

During the business trip, joint R&D projects and their implementation at EuroSibEnergo Group's facilities were discussed in detail. Key projects include state-of-the-art condition-based maintenance technologies for turbines and generating units at HPPs, diagnostic tests and turbine damage projection, diagnostic tests for HPP dam foundations, optimization of electricity transmission limits, maintenance of energy system reliability, etc.

We would like to remind that on March 7, 2013, EuroSibEnergo and Hydro-Quebec concluded an agreement on cooperation in research and development in the sphere of hydropower generation and electricity transmission projects. Under the agreement, Irkutskenergo (controlled by EuroSibEnergo) will gain access to the R&D results of Hydro-Quebec's research institute (IREQ) and the license for their use in Russia; in its turn, Irkutskenergo will co-finance research and development.

Evgeny Fedorov, CEO of EuroSibEnergo: “The use of Hydro-Quebec's technologies at our HPPs in a similar climate will help to improve the performance and reliability of the entire energy system in Russia. Cooperation of two industry leaders in the sphere of R&D will not only enable to transfer the most advanced technologies for hydropower generation and electricity transmission to Russia, but will also give a new impetus to the development of the entire industry.
