OREANDA-NEWS. As part of the government contract fulfillment, the employees of NIID (“Salut” affiliated engine production and technology research facility) and CIAM, acting under joint cooperation agreement, have completed the scientific project to produce a turbine blisk allowing a 30% design weight reduction.

“This is a major scientific and engineering breakthrough, immensely significant to national economy. We're talking about the ultimate solution to the problem”, - stresses Nikolay Abraimov, doctor of engineering science, professor, head of the nanosystems technologies and electrical machining department at NIID.

Aircraft weight reduction - is the key aviation issue. The engine production specialists have endeavored to resolve the turbine blisk manufacture problem for more than 40 years. Only now a turbine blisk design project has been developed providing for significant weight reduction. CIAM executed the development, project engineering and technical expertise. The test production process took place at “Salut”.

Presently the technology is being further developed by the specialists of both enterprises.
