OREANDA-NEWS. By Friday, April 25, drivers on Josh Birmingham Parkway headed to CLT will be directed onto the Airport's new entrance road's inbound lanes, which merge onto Little Rock Road and directly to the terminal.

The new traffic pattern will be a major milestone for Charlotte Douglas, providing a more direct route to the terminal and long term parking lots. Click here to view a video showcasing the new traffic route.

Crews first will open the new entrance roadway on Wednesday, April 23 to inbound traffic on Little Rock Road and the Harlee Avenue ramp.

A temporary traffic light has been installed at the intersection of Airport Loop Road and the new entrance road to assist passengers with merging traffic off Rental Car Road. CLT's Cell Phone lots 1 and 2 are located on Rental Car Road where Cell Phone Lots 1 and 2 are located.

Drivers are encouraged to be alert and follow the variable message signs that will be strategically placed along roadways alerting drivers of the change. Traffic officers will also be on hand to assist travelers.

Passengers are asked to plan accordingly and allow extra time when visiting the Airport.

Construction of the new USD21.5 million airport entrance road began in August 2012. The entire project, which also includes new exit lanes, is scheduled for completion this fall. When finished, the road will improve connections to and from the terminal.
