OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2014. The Estonian certification authority, AS Sertifitseerimiskeskus (Certification Center), has started work on a mobile ID solution targeting the international market.

"The mobile ID solution created in Estonia has attracted much international interest, but it cannot be exported in its present form, it needs to be adjusted to a significant degree," manager of the center Kalev Pihl told BNS.

The development could take a couple of years but the sale process could begin sooner, Pihl said. "We'd like very much to be able to speak about the first sales sooner, but according to the project plan it could take a year or two," he added.

The project is estimated to cost around 382,000 euros of which 286,400 euros is provided by Enterprise Estonia.

At the beginning of this year more than 40,000 people in Estonia were using mobile ID, data of Sertifitseerimiskeskus show. Last year the number of acts of authentication and signature performed using mobile ID reached 1-1.3 million in all months, but on the average a user makes approximately 30 inquiries per month, Pihl told BNS earlier.

At the end of 2012 about 33,000 people and at the end of 2011 around 29,000 people in Estonia had a mobile ID.
