The aggregate throughput of Klaipeda Port and at Butinges terminal in January – April of 2014 totalled 14 m tonnes of seaborne cargo: 11,9 m tonnes were handled in Klaipeda Seaport (the year-on-year change was -1,6 pct. or -193,8 thou. tonnes) and 2,1 m tonnes were handled at Butinges Terminal (the year-on-year change was -34,5 pct. or -1,1 m tonnes).

The overall turnover of Klaipeda Port year boosted even by +18,7 pct in April of the current: totally 3 184,3 thou. tonnes were handled, i.e. more by +502,5 thou. tonnes comparing with April of 2013. Such a significant growth was reached due to the monthly record result set in the throughput of fertilizers throughout the entire history of the port: altogether 1 237,2 thou. tonnes of bulk (packed and bulk) and liquid fertilizers were handled (+64,9 pct. or +486,8 thou. tonnes than in April of 2013). The handling rates of fertilizers in April of the current year were higher by +6,9 pct. or by +79,7 thou. tonnes than the second monthly result in the throughput of fertilizers recorded in August of 2011 – 1 157,5 thou. tonnes.

In January – April of 2014 the total throughput of fertilizers (bulk and liquid) jumped from 722,5 thou. tonnes in January to 1 237,2 thou. tonnes in April (the year-on-year change was +71,2 pct. or +514,7 thou. tonnes).

In January – April of 2014 the turnover of dry and bulk cargo constituting 48 pct. of the overall cargo turnover of Klaipeda seaport increased rather rapidly: totally 5 649,7 thou. tonnes, i.e. more by +19,4 pct. or by +916,4 thou. tonnes than in January – April of 2013 were handled. This result was achieved basically due to increased even by 31,5 pct. throughput of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers : 3 286  thou. tonnes were handled (the yoy change was +787,2 thou. tonnes). The handling rates of other categories of cargo making impact on the throughput in this cargo group dropped down: 851,8 thou. tonnes of agriculture products ( the yoy change was -20,4 pct. or -218,3 thou. tonnes) and 621,8 thou. tonnes of raw and processed minerals, construction materials (the yoy change was -1 pct.. or -6,6 thou. tonnes) were handled. The handling turnover of ore continues to grow rapidly: 509 thou. tonnes were handled ( the yoy change was +329 pct. or +390,3 thou. tonnes),

The turnover of liquid cargo cutting out 21 pct. of the overall cargo turnover of the seaport reached the level of April of 2013 : totally 785,6 thou. tonnes were handled (the yoy change was -0,4 pct. or -3,5 thou. tonnes). The signs of recovery were observed in the handling of oil products and liquid fertilizers – 616,3 thou. tonnes (the yoy change was -2,2 pct. or -13,9 thou. tonnes) and 125,7 thou. tonnes (the yoy change was -2 pct. or -2,5 thou. tonnes) respectively were transhiped in April of 2014.

In January – April of 2014 the throughput of general cargoes constituting 31 pct. of the overall cargo turnover of the seaport increased by +9,3 pct. or by +318,5 thou. tonnes to 3 728,6 thou. tonnes.  The throughput of packed fertilizers attributed to this cargo group increased even by 46,5 pct.: totally 187,6  thou. th were handled( the yoy change was  +59,5 thou. tonnes). In line the significant rise of containerised cargoes was recorded in April of 2014: totally 1 832,2 thou. tonnes were handled (the yoy change was +29,3 pct. or +414,7 thou. tonnes). Meanwhile the handling turnover of Ro-Ro cargoes (1 424,2 thou. tonnes, the yoy change was -6,7 pct. or -101,2 thou. tonnes), timber and forest products (127,1 thou. t were handled, the yoy change was -23,9 pct. or -40 thou. t) and reefer cargoes ( 65,9 thou. t were handled, the yoy change was -26 pct. or -23,1 thou. t) attributed to this cargo group and making impact of the overall turnover of the seaport significantly dropped down.

Altogether 2 191 vessel was reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal in January – April of 2014. 21 vessel moored at Butinges terminal. Klaipeda Seaport received 2 170 vessels (more by +4,3 pct. or by +89 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of 2013 ).

The number of passengers within the analysed period was 60 250 passengers, i.e. less by -20,2 pct. or by

-15 205 passengers comparing with the first four months of 2013.
