OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2014. In Kazakhstan, 50 leading enterprises consume 40 percent of all energy resources of the country, First Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Albert Rau said today at an international mining and smelting congress in Astana.

"Today, Kazakhstan's top 50 companies, mainly of mining and smelting sector consume about 40 percent of the country's energy resources. There is one company, which consumes 5-6 percent of energy resources of the entire country," he said.

According to him, each of these companies has the potential to reduce energy consumption by 30-40 percent.

"So, if these 50 companies will reduce energy consumption by 25 percent, it immediately gives the country a 10 percent energy savings. Therefore, the Government had taken a decision on improvement of legislation. Not dramatically, but we are moving," he concluded.
