PotashCorp Supports Flood Relief Concerts Across Saskatchewan
OREANDA-NEWS. August 13, 2014. In July, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) committed a total of USD50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross. The company offered to match all proceeds from Flood Relief Concerts held in Saskatoon, Regina and Yorkton, including ticket sales and donations at the events.
Southern areas of the Prairies were devastated by torrential rains and flooding in the early summer. Award-winning country musician Stephen Maguire, who has gained a reputation for his community-minded efforts, was quick to spearhead four concerts to benefit those impacted. Musicians from across the province dedicated their time and talent to the cause.
“The great thing about PotashCorp’s matching gift is that a USD 20 concert ticket became a USD 40 concert ticket,” said Maguire. “It’s huge having the company involved in concerts that truly are a community effort – a team effort – to help each other out after the flooding.”
With total concert proceeds netting USD 37,831.85, PotashCorp contributed USD 40,000 to the Saskatchewan Red Cross. The company gave an additional USD 10,000 to the Manitoba Red Cross to support PotashCorp’s employees who live in the neighboring province. The company’s Rocanville facility is located near the Manitoba border.
“Since 2010 we have supported three previous concerts to benefit the Canadian Red Cross and, as a company, it’s important to help out our neighbors in their time of need,” said Denita Stann, PotashCorp’s Vice President, Investor and Public Relations.
Donations to the Canadian Red Cross Saskatchewan Flood and Manitoba Flood funds help support families as they recover from disaster. Support includes emergency provisions, clean-up materials, occupational and transportation support, and replacing essential health and children’s items.
“It is tremendous that PotashCorp again volunteered to assist residents during a crisis,” said Cindy Fuchs from the Canadian Red Cross. “PotashCorp has been a long term partner of the Red Cross and we’re so thankful for their support. We are also thankful to Stephen Maguire and the many talented musicians for all they have done and all they continue to do.”
As the world’s largest crop nutrient company, PotashCorp plays an integral role in global food production. The company produces the three essential nutrients required to help farmers grow healthier, more abundant crops. With global populations rising and diets improving in developing countries, crop nutrients such as potash, phosphates and nitrogen offer a responsible and practical solution to help produce the food we need, from the land we have.
