OREANDA-NEWS. A visit of the representatives of Inter RAO, UEC and NPO Saturn took place and resulted in the drawing of conclusions that NPO Saturn has all the necessary faculties to produce high-power gas turbines, can continue a strategic partnership with Inter RAO in the frame of the implementation of the GTE-110 retrofit project and develop its derivative GTE-110M engine.

The GTE-110 manufactured by NPO Saturn represents a power gas turbine in the power class of over 110 megawatts (ISO 114.5 Mw) with a fully mastered production cycle.

According to Dmitriy Novikov, NPO deputy CEO for industrial and marine gas turbine engine programs, 'in the course of the visit to NPO Saturn of the delegates from UEC and Inter RAO, the customer was demonstrated the end-to-end production cycle of the GTE-110M engine, the results of fulfilling the current contract signed with the Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as the technological and managerial competences with regard to the manufacturing of high-power gas turbines. To NPO Saturn it is a very important stage indeed. In view of the ongoing political situation, the company is faced with a serious task of producing what was previously imported into the country. To date, NPO Saturn is the only Russian manufacturer of high-power gas turbine engines for electric power generation. We demonstrated to the customer our ability to produce this class of industrial gas turbine power plants.'

Since the beginning of the mastering of the GTE-110 at NPO Saturn, the company has set up dedicated production areas having a unique set of machine tools ensuring the entire scope of manufacturing, assembly and testing of this gas turbine engine. A team of competent experts ensuring the production, design and production engineering, testing and service support has emerged.

During the project implementation, NPO Saturn is using its extensive R&D and process engineering backlog of knowledge, as well as the knowledge coming from the leading institutes in the industry. All the results of the research and development activities will be implemented on the GTE-110 No. 2 once its restoration is finished.

In parallel, working on the realization of the state contract in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, NPO Saturn is developing new technologies, materials and equipment to be used in combined-cycle installations based on high-power gas turbine power plants. The R&D results coupled with the already available production and engineering materials will be used for the further development of Russian high-power gas turbines and combined-cycle installations.
