OREANDA-NEWS. CLT passenger traffic is up for the eighth consecutive month, rising 2.4 percent from 29,147,707 fliers January - August 2013 to 29,857,467 through August 2014.

Passengers flying abroad climbed 6.1 percent from 2,077,706 travelers (January – August 2013) to 2,205,904 (January – August 2014).

Cargo numbers also saw an upswing, bouncing 3.2 percent from 86,212 tons during the first eight months of 2013 to 88,958 tons in 2014.

Operations continued experiencing a slight decrease due to American Airlines’, who operates more than 90 percent of CLT flights, realignment of operations. Aircraft movements dipped 3 percent from 375,399 landings and departures (January – August 2013) to 364,082 through August 2014.

In other news, Airports Council International (ACI) finalized its 2013 rankings, confirming CLT as eighth nationwide and 23rd worldwide in passenger traffic. Preliminary ACI rankings were released this spring and final numbers were published in late September. 

Charlotte Douglas made history last year serving 43.46 million travelers – the largest passenger traffic numbers in Airport history. It was a 5.4 percent jump from 2012, which saw 41.23 million fliers.

CLT also held its spot as sixth nationwide and seventh worldwide in operations. Last year, CLT oversaw 557,948 aircraft movements, a 1.1 percent bump from 2012, which had 552,093 landings and departures.
