OREANDA-NEWS  The first stage of the plant for the production of hydrogen on Sakhalin with a capacity of 30 thousand tons is planned to be put into operation in 2026, the governor of the Sakhalin region Valery Limarenko said.

"The commissioning of the first stage of production with a volume of 30 thousand tons per year is scheduled for the end of 2026, and the output of 100 thousand tons in 2030," he said at the Sakhalin Oil and Gas conference in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on Wednesday.

The head of the region noted that Rosatom has prepared a feasibility study for the construction of this plant and is currently developing a justification for investments.

"At the Eastern Economic Forum, Rusatom Overseas has already signed an agreement with Korean partners on the supply of hydrogen," Limarenko recalled.

According to him, the share of Russian technologies in this project can be up to 80%.

"The hydrogen production plant will become part of the Eastern Hydrogen Cluster that we are creating on Sakhalin. This project was included in the concept of the development of hydrogen energy in the Russian Federation," the governor said.

The cluster will include a hydrogen landfill, its creation has already begun. The base site for the test site in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk will be the special design bureau of Marine research automation equipment (SAMI Design Bureau) FEB RAS, "tests and approbation of hydrogen equipment will be carried out there."

As previously reported, the Sakhalin hydrogen plant will provide low-carbon hydrogen production by steam conversion of methane with its capture technology.
