OREANDA-NEWS. Nord Stream 2 will be a problematic legacy for the new German government following the departure of Angela Merkel, Süddeutsche Zeitung columnist Stefan Cornelius said on November 9.

"The admission of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to operation was and remains the most important political decision that the previous federal government will inherit the next one," he said.

According to the observer, the German authorities should resort to the "only" way to deal with the pipeline: "to separate the gas owner and the network operator." He also believes that the FRG government will allegedly have to "freeze" the pipeline for political purposes and thereby get rid of "Russian gas dependence".

On November 9, it became known that the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline by the German regulator Bundesnetzagentur could be completed in January 2022. This was stated by the deputy of the Bundestag, the ex-head of the Committee for Economics and Energy Klaus Ernst.

On the same day, Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany party Waldemar Gerdt said that it was irrational and unethical to include Ukraine in the certification process for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

According to the German politician, this decision only confirms that the German leadership has people dependent on overseas partners who endanger the economy of their own country.

On November 5, the German Federal Ministry of Economy, during the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline operator, ignored Poland's fears about possible disruptions in gas supplies to some EU countries.

The construction of Nord Stream 2 was completed on September 10. The gas pipeline was built from Russia to Germany along the Baltic seabed with the aim of direct gas supplies to Europe. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The Baltic states, Poland, the USA and Ukraine are opposed.
