OREANDA-NEWS.  Russian President Vladimir Putin has understood Alexander Lukashenko's statement that Belarus may stop the transit of energy resources to Europe. Press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov told journalists, Interfax reported.

"Putin has expressed his understanding of these tough responses, but, on the other hand, the president, of course, expects that this will in no way disrupt our obligations to European gas recipients,"- Peskov said.

The president's press secretary recalled Putin's words when he explained Minsk's harsh counterreaction with "absolutely unjustified pressure on Belarus.

Earlier, Lukashenko said in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency that Belarus was ready to stop energy transit to Europe if Poland carried out its threat and closed the border. "Look, when the Poles or some other people are going to strangle me, am I going to look at some contracts? Who are you going to close it to the detriment of? Yourself? Think about how you will buy energy resources from Russia,"- he added.

Polish authorities announced about the possible closure of the border with Belarus in connection with the migration crisis in early November. Warsaw has admitted a complete cessation of trade and a ban on the movement of people between the countries.

Poland accuses Belarus of having intentionally provoked the border crisis by directing the streams of refugees to those areas in the Grodno region where there are no official crossings. Minsk denies the accusations, accusing Warsaw of inhumane treatment of the refugees.
