Myanmar has proposed creating a Russian oil trade center

OREANDA-NEWS The Dawei region in Myanmar can be turned into a major energy center in Southeast Asia and used for trading Russian energy resources, Myanmar's Minister of Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Luin told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).
"Dawei can be developed as a major energy center in Southeast Asia and trade in Russian oil and other energy resources can be organized through it," the minister said.
According to him, Dawei has a strategically advantageous position, connecting the interior of Southeast Asia with the Indian Ocean. Gas pipelines are already passing through the region, through which Myanmar supplies natural gas to Thailand.
The minister noted that the use of Dawei can provide Russia with access to the markets of the countries of the region. Russian energy resources can flow through Thailand to Malaysia, and eastward to Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and other countries. Access to the Chinese market is also possible through Myanmar.
"Oil and natural gas imported from Russia can be transported through existing pipelines in Myanmar and further distributed to Southeast Asian countries," said Wu Ko Ko Luin.
In his opinion, Dawei can become not only an energy center, but also a major transport and logistics center that will be used to develop other areas of trade.
