OREANDA-NEWS The Council of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NDK) of Turkey has issued a permit to Akkuyu Nuclear JSC (part of Rosatom State Corporation) for the commissioning of the First power unit of the Akkuyu NPP, Rosatom reported.

The next stage of licensing of the Akkuyu NPP is obtaining a license for the operation of the I power unit, which will allow to start loading nuclear fuel into the reactor and start pre-launch control operations, the message says.

Rosatom is building Turkey's first Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Mersin province. The station will consist of four power units with a capacity of 1200 MW each. The cost of the NPP construction project is about $22 billion. The physical start-up of the NPP is scheduled for 2024.

Earlier it was reported that Turkey is considering construction projects for two more nuclear power plants - in the provinces of Sinop and Trakia. The necessary research has been completed at the site of the second nuclear power plant, and negotiations are underway with South Korea and the Russian Federation. The construction of a third nuclear power plant is being discussed with China.

Also on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week (REN-2023), Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said that the company was ready to offer Turkey its small nuclear power plants.
